Beverages In Schools

Our industry collaborated with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation—a joint initiative of the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation—to develop school beverage guidelines. These guidelines significantly cut the calories available from beverages during the school day.

We are committed to leading meaningful change and believe limiting calories in our schools is a sensible approach. It’s all about helping kids make balanced choices.

Industry adopted the guidelines in May 2006 and our members have been working hard to implement them by the 2009-2010 school year. So far, we have already capped calories, reduced portion sizes, offered a range of nutritious beverages and will completely remove full-calorie soft drinks by the 2009-2010 school year.

These guidelines are mirrored in Ohio’s Healthy Choices for Healthy Children law enacted last year (Am. Sub SB 210) and supported by the Ohio Soft Drink Association.
